Luxury fashion brand MCM celebrates 80th anniversary of iconic cartoon Tweety


KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 — Growing up, actor Azrel Ismail loved watching Looney Tunes cartoons and his favourite character was Tweety.

“I liked how cute and cheeky Tweety was,” said Azrel, 38, referring to the world’s most beloved canary with his signature catchphrase “I tawt I taw a puddy tat!”

Believe it or not, Tweety is celebrating his 80th anniversary this year and luxury fashion brand MCM is celebrating eight decades of animated hijinks with a playful collaboration.

Azrel, who can be seen in local movie Bikowas one of many celebrities who recently visited MCM in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur to check out the Looney Tunes X MCM collaboration.

Social media influencer Lucas Lau also gushed over the new collection which comprises 30 pieces, from Tweety bags to ready-to-wear and accessories.

“It’s part of my childhood so it’s really cool to see this collaboration,” said Lau, 30.

Asked which was his favourite piece, Lau points to his sweater. “Frankentweety (Tweety’s monster alter ego) is cute!” he answered with a laugh.

The collection, an official collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, continues the luxury fashion brand’s long-running heritage in the entertainment sector.

“This special collaboration between MCM and Warner Bros. Discovery Consumer Products is an inspiring opportunity to connect with our customers and fans, given Tweety’s iconic character,” said MCM’s global brand officer Dirk Schönberger.

Launching with a global rollout, the Looney Tunes X MCM collection is accompanied by special pop-up and pop-in stores, bedecked with vibrant images of Tweety and his iconic bird cage.

Fans can take their pick from totes, shoppers and backpacks, available in black, white and cognac editions. A range of hoodies and sweaters, emblazoned with the brand’s letters and an assortment of leather goods captures the cartoon spirit with MCM’s signature craftsmanship. Topping it off are animated ball caps and bucket hats.
